Kid Pilots, Drivers

Bookmark and Share

Aside from being a doctor or a police officer, another profession that many young boys want to become when they grow up is being a pilot. It seems that flying a plane at thousands of feet above the ground attracts the imagination of many kids, particularly boys. However, in reality, not many end up in a flying career. One of the reasons behind this is that becoming a pilot, especially the ones that fly commercial airplanes or fighter jets, can be extremely hard. You need to undergo a lot of training before you can be given a license to fly planes as a profession. Despite the strict aviation regulations, however, there are still a lot of kid pilots all over the world.

Since Federal regulations do not really prohibit children to fly a plane, provided that a young one is in the company of a flight instructor, there are many kid pilots aged 8 to 16 all across the country. In fact, the youngest pilot, Jessica Dubroff, was only 7 years old when she first flew a plane. Other children that are record holders in flying include Breean Farfan, Kenny Roy, Jonathan Strickland, and Jimmy Haywood.

What do parents need to do if their child wants to become a pilot? First, you can encourage your kid's passion for flying by bringing him to aviation museums and fairs. It may also be a good idea to take him to places where there are flight simulators. In many entertainment centers or theme parks, there are games that help children feel that they are flying airplanes, particularly fighter planes. Many aspiring kid pilots may also need computer programs or video games that will help them get the feel for flying airplanes. In fact, some games and simulators even rotate, vibrate and move like the real thing so kids can realize that piloting an aircraft can be very challenging.

If children really want to become kid pilots, then parents can also enroll them in flying schools. There are quite a number of schools all over the United States that offer classes for children, sometimes even as young as 7 or 8. However, be prepared to shell out money because flight lessons can be very expensive. Otherwise, you can inquire from foundations or organizations that teach kids how to fly for free. Actually there are also after-school programs in flight training. Just ask your kid's school if they sponsor such activities.
