Although children are usually afraid of doctors, many of them actually want to be one someday. Aside from dreaming of making other people well, kids are probably fascinated by the tools and contraptions doctors use when examining their patients. As parents, the one thing we can do to make our children succeed in becoming kid doctors/ medical professionals - if they want to - is to give our support by providing them the guidance and resources they will need to hone their skills and talents. After all, as children get older, their preferred profession may even change. Read this article to find out more about Becoming a Doctor.
One way to encourage your kids in pursuing their dreams of becoming a physician is by buying them kid doctors/medical professional toys or kits. You can probably find such items in toy stores everywhere. It would even be fun for you and your child if you play as his or her patient for some quality bonding time. Also, remember that some children may resort to hurting insects and animals to make their role-playing feel more authentic. So be sure to watch what your kid is doing while playing doctor.
If your son or daughter still shows signs of interest in the field of medicine when she reaches eight or ten, then you can probably buy educational toys that will help her become familiar with the parts of the body and the functions of the different organs of the body. You may also want to buy your child some books and videos not only about the profession, but also about kid doctors/medical workers such as fictional character Doogie Howser MD, who became a doctor at age 16. These things are important in keeping your kids interested in the profession, as well as showing them the responsibilities of people who work in the medical field.
Medicine is a very serious profession. This is probably the reason why in most states, a person has to be at least 21 years old in order to become a full-fledged doctor. If your child is showing signs of interest in the medical profession, all you have to do is provide the resources to help hone his or her skills. You really do not have to expect your child to be among kid doctors/medical professionals. But you may want to tell her that it is not an impossible feat. In some countries, children aged 14 or 15 can already enroll in Med schools provided they have high grades. In fact, the world's youngest doctor is Balamurali Ambati, who became a doctor at 17 years old.
