The kitchen has always been an attractive place for kids, most likely because it's where delectable goodies and treats are created and enjoyed. Besides, there are many gadgets and tools in the kitchen that can be pretty interesting for future chefs and bakers under the age of 10. However, if becoming a chef or baker is an option that your kids are seriously considering as a career, then help your little apprentice get a feel for baking and cooking with kids cooking schools or by including them in the kitchen.
In your home, you are the Mentor, your child is your Apprentice, and your kitchen is your Culinary School. Start training your Apprentices in becoming a chef or baker the tender age of three or four. Just make sure that you and your children are aware of kitchen safety. At this age, kids can help in flattening the cookie dough or spreading jellies, peanut butter, and other sandwich spreads using a plastic spreader. They can also help put in ingredients in your mixing bowl. These activities are enough to pique your kids' interest. As your little apprentice grows older, give them more responsibility in the kitchen.
If your kids remain interested in cooking, are glued to shows like The Food Network, and whipping up cookies and goodies when they reach the age of ten or eleven, then probably they are indeed serious about becoming a chef or baker someday. This could be the best time to enroll them in a cooking school such as The Young Chefs Academy. Surf the Internet and you will surely find cooking and baking schools that offer classes for kids and teens. During the summer, some restaurants also provide summer programs and apprenticeships for kids. Ask the owner of your favorite restaurants if they take in kid apprentices. Talk to your friends with specialty dishes about teaching your child.
Your child may also dream of owning their own restaurant or bakery, or catering special occasions and parties. A caterer is someone that supplies foods during special events and occasions, particularly for large parties. Aside from handling the food, the caterer also takes charge of the beautiful presentation of the food that is being served and even provides the plates, forks and knives for the occasion. Other exciting careers in the food industry include chef instructors, which is the one who handles instruction and education of chefs; pastry chefs, whose specialty is to create breads, dough, cakes, rolls and other fancy desserts; and as sous-chefs, who aid in running the kitchen and assists in cooking.
